   Thank you for taking the time to look at our site and learning more about us and The Blessed Portion Ministries. We are Tommy and Gina Burns. We have been married for over 30 years and have three children. We started this ministry in the winter of 2011 and have been amazed at how God has continued to grow us through this ministry.

   The desire has always been there as far as helping the homeless, however it seemed that there was never a so called good time to get started. In the fall of 2008 when the financial crisis hit it also affected us personally as well. Tommy’s job at the time was a sales a position for a major food company. There were some route cuts made to help another salesman get a route for themselves. This happened a lot and was never an issue to make that route back up, but with the financial crisis it made it impossible. After struggling for over a year it was time to find a new job and the lord provided one. However, our expenses were too much for us to keep up with given that our income had dropped to half of what we were used to.

 

  So, after 2 more years we realized we were being forced to let go of some things and that meant moving. It was a difficult time and yet the lord used this great time of suffering to get us to see that he was also wanting us to start this ministry. It was hard to understand as we had no idea where we would live ourselves…. but God provided a way. In the middle of all this God also started doing some work on us personally and while it was hard …it was needed. So, while we have gone through many changes and still are in some ways God has been faithful to us. He has blessed us to oversee this ministry and we will do His work as long as he enables us.
