FRIDAY NIGHT UPDATE

Blessed Portion Friday Update 8-18-23

Tonight, was a calmer night which is always welcomed. The last few weeks have been intense – however, when you can zoom out a little bit and try to understand what is really going on, it seems to help. We know several friends who have not had the best home life. One man two weeks ago shared how his mom never treated him right. She was verbally and physically abusive to him and that night he was over all of it. He was frustrated as to how she was acting to him and was in a bad mood. Another gentleman oddly enough was also in a bad mood given a situation with his mom. So, the two of them went at it, saying they had nothing to lose and didn’t care about the outcome. Thankfully we were able to calm things down a bit and they both left and went their separate ways. It was a little dicey there for a minute- but as I thought about the situation I could see the frustration on both sides. Tonight, one of those men was down and pleasant. When I asked how he was he said ok! Don’t we all get frustrated though?

As I have learned from being down on Fridays for 12 years, we all go through similar things, but some of us have more to lose than others as I have been told. When you live on the street and have no friends, and no family you internally give up. You do not care about the repercussions because you feel no one cares for you anyways- which in turn causes a person to let out all their anger without hesitation. Not saying that is the right thing to do, but I can understand it. Tonight, there were so many people who were frustrated but still had a smile, asked how we were doing, and were pleasant. Duane gave the verse of the day as he always does, and I appreciate it. He never fails in offering to read the word and help someone however he can, despite his current situation. He is good for the soul in that he is always positive and willing to hug anyone and say, “Don’t give up.” Tonight, there were some looking for tents and we do not have any. We ran out of blankets and sleeping bags and just about out of backpacks. Please know we show extreme caution in how we give things out as we want to respect those who donate the items and or the monies provided so we can purchase those items. We are in desperate need of ALL things. Men’s large and above shirts, jeans, sweatpants, small tents, men’s underwear, socks, flashlights, bookbags, candles, aa batteries, and resources to purchase items we do not get donated. If you want to donate financially you can through our website at theblessedportionministries.org, through our Facebook page, or mail to The Blessed Portion Ministries P.O. Box 188 Garrett Indiana 46738. We are a 501c3 non-for-profit ministry so your donation is a tax write-off.
